Operation Rotting Sleep, Part 2 (UFO Landing Site, Mexico)

Gentlesophs, I am your host, the Kid With A Pen, and welcome to XCOM:  War Interminable - my playthrough of XCOM:  Enemy Unknown, with the Enemy Within expansion, the Operation Slingshot DLC, and most importantly the Long War mod.  Links to all of these can be found on the "What is XCOM:  War Interminable?" page below this post.

Last time, on XCOM:  War Interminable:
A Transport UFO landed in Mexico for sinister purposes unknown.  Strike One went to the landing site to ambush the craft and eliminate its crew and passengers.  However, not long after contact, no fewer than 20 aliens came at the squad in waves.  No one was killed, but there were injuries.  We left off with Strike One facing the latest wave of Floaters, having fought off alien attack from all sides and not yet even gotten past the ramp yet.
A Floater misses its shot at Vixen.
Schuster and Vixen miss a Floater on overwatch.
A Floater misses Albright.
Albright shoots back...
...and Schuster gets the kill!
Banzai misses his first shot, but hits with the second.  No kills, though.
Vixen and Chilong also miss the Floater.
Long Shot steadies aim...
...and the Floaters run off.  Yeah, you'd better run!
Tat takes the first cautious steps into the UFO's main hold, and opens the door to the first cargo bay.
A quick visual inspection reveals a lack of aliens in this cargo bay.
Schuster, Long Shot, and Banzai need to take quick reloads.
The rest of the squad overwatches.
Next turn!  Tat is our point man for securing this UFO, and he takes a position on the starboard-side catwalk.
Chilong advances and reloads.
Long Shot advances and steadies.
In the lead-up to boarding the UFO, the rest of the squad overwatches.
Tat hears movement from outside the UFO.  Probably the Floaters freaking out.
Meanwhile, Albright reaches the other cargo bay and opens the door...
...revealing it to also be clear of hostiles.
The rest of the squad quickly moves up to the UFO.
Long Shot steadies aim, just in case the Floaters come back.
Banzai and Schuster overwatch.
Long Shot finally catches up with the rest of the squad, and steadies aim once more.
Meanwhile Tat continues to press forward, and stops to reload.
Splitting into teams, the rest of the squad overwatches.
Tat hears movement from outside the craft again.  Most likely the Floaters.
Long Shot takes position, ready to cover Vixen's team as they advance down the middle catwalk.
As Banzai's team advances down the starboard catwalk, Schuster covers the rear.
The turn ends with both Vixen and Banzai's team overwatching.
Tat moves up and opens the door to the outside deck.  No hostiles spotted.
Both teams advance.  Kozlov takes the door with Tat, and the squad overwatches.
There's the bastard!  Tat and Kozlov take it down with overwatch shots.
Next turn, Vixen's team moves into the stasis bay.
Meanwhile, Banzai's team advances onto the deck.  The squad overwatches once more.
Turns out there was another Floater that we hadn't accounted for.  Kozlov and Tat make short work of it with overwatch shots.
Next turn!  Vixen's team moves to prepare to breach the UFO's bridge...
...while Banzai's team secures the deck.  No hostiles, but we'll overwatch all the same, just to be safe.
Finally, the squad reunites and gets into position to breach the UFO.  Banzai and Albright cover the door, Tat, Chilong, and Kozlov prepare to rush in, Vixen waits in the wings in case someone requires her talents, and Long Shot and Schuster cover the sides in case there are any more pods lurking about.  The rest of the squad overwatches.
Banzai hears movement on the bridge.  The command pod knows we're here.
Time to breach!  Albright throws the door...
...and contact!  Four Outsiders, one of them an engineer.  Assault team, go!
Tat flanks an Outsider and scores a hit.  Good work - I didn't expect a kill.
Kozlov and Chilong take positions where they won't be flanked by the end of the turn.  Kozlov grenades one Outsider...
...and Chilong grenades the other.
Long Shot misses the far Outsider...
...but Banzai does not disappoint.  One Outsider down!
With his second shot, Banzai hits the other Outsider, but fails to kill.  That's fine, we have more shots in the pipe...
...like Albright, who kills one Outsider and injures the Engineer.  So far, all according to plan.
Vixen steps in and kills the Engineer, leaving only a single Outsider remaining.  That turn went well.
In the aliens' turn, the last Outsider takes a potshot at Chilong, but misses.
In response, Chilong vaults over the guard rail, gets up close and personal, and destroys the Outsider's cover (and blows a hole in the hull of the UFO) with an HE grenade.
Tat follows suit, but misses his flanking shot on the Outsider.
Kozlov drops an AP grenade on the Outsider, but still fails to kill it.
With the success of this turn riding on what happens next, Vixen orders Chilong to take the kill shot...
...which he executes flawlessly.
Op success!
That was a good mission, people!  Now, back to XCOM HQ for Jaeger shots and knock-knock jokes.
Promotions for everyone!  Welcome back!
And now, promotions!  Albright made Corporal, where he gets the Opportunist perk and the nickname, "Rascal."
Tat made Lance Corporal and got the Holo-Targeting perk.
Banzai made Sergeant and got Suppression.
Chilong also made Sergeant, and gained Repair, which gives him two extra Arc Thrower charges when he brings one along.  This is why we need Sergeant-level engineers.
Kozlov made Corporal and got the nickname "Santa," as well as the perk Smoke and Mirrors.
Vixen made Lieutenant 2, and got the Paramedic perk.  Paramedic allows her to use a medkit without spending an action once per turn.
Schuster finally made Corporal, and keeping in line with his bullet wizard build, he gains Shredder Ammo.  He also gets the nickname "Enforcer," which is pretty badass.
And this is why I assault landed Large UFOs.  Just look at this haul.
For other promotions, Olakitan becomes an engineer.
Shearer's a scout, too.
Back to the Hologlobe!
And, before you know it, alien abductions in Nigeria.  Strike One, assemble!
Leading the squad is our medic, Congo.  The usual loadout, except she's packing a laser rifle instead of a laser carbine for reasons that will be made clear shortly.
Yamazaki tags along as our sole infantry.  I usually bring two infantry on missions, but this time, I think one will be enough, again, for reasons that will soon be clear.
Specialist Shearer is our scout for this mission.  She is also toting a laser rifle instead of a carbine...
...and this is why:  on this mission, we are bringing no fewer than five rookies for training purposes, starting with PFC Akiwa Sikafuo, packing the standard rookie loadout.
PFC Heloisa Barbosa, toting an HE grenade for cover destruction.
PFC Ville Savolainen, with the backup medkit.
PFC Andre Desflores, with an AP grenade.
And last but not least, PFC Vincente Cervantes, with a laser SMG and a smoke grenade.
Strike One has arrived at the mission site.
