Operation Devil's Paramour, Part Three (Battleship Assault - Shenzhen, China)

Gentlesophs, I am your host, the Kid With A Pen, and welcome to XCOM:  War Interminable - my playthrough of XCOM:  Enemy Unknown, with the Enemy Within expansion, the Operation Slingshot DLC, and most importantly the Long War mod.  Links to all of these can be found on the "What is XCOM:  War Interminable?" page below this post.

Last time, on XCOM: War Interminable:

Strike One's assault on the alien battleship has gone well, but not without cost.  We lost our gunner, Smokey, to Muton fire, and we lost our scout, Shearer, to a Cyberdisc.  We've disabled half of the power conduits needed to bring this UFO down, and we've left quite a few dead aliens in our wake.

That said, we're out of rockets and medkits, and in addition to enemies before us, we have a Chryssalid bearing down on us from the rear.  This is going to be tough.

And now, the thrilling conclusion to Operation Devil's Paramour.

Boom Boom was able to get an overwatch hit in on the Chryssalid as it gallops toward our doom...
...and for reasons passing understanding it rode past Frost completely.  However, another Thin Man drops down in the far turret, putting Frost's survival in question yet again.
That said, Bull did manage to kill the thing.  Perhaps I'm making this sound more dramatic than it actually is.
For his next trick, Bull is going to kill a Floater with only a 57% chance to hit.
Frost takes aim at the Thin Man...
...and puts a bullet right between its eyes.  "Call me 'Lady Grey.'"
Geronimo moves up, and misses the Muton with his shotgun.
Boom Boom needs to reload.
Apparnetly, a Sectoid dropped down on top of the far pylon.  Trips fails to hit it.
He also needs to reload again.  I swear, Trips, you can only hit things on overwatch, it seems.
Boom Boom misses the Floater.
On the aliens' turn, the Floater takes a shot at Boom Boom and misses.
Geronimo goes in for the kill...
...dodges the Sectoid's overwatch...
...and flanks the Muton but does not kill it.
 Congo misses the Muton.
Bull takes aim...
...and finishes the job.
Frost reloads her sniper rifle.
The rest of the squad overwatches again.
The Floater shoots at Geronimo, but misses.
Frost aims at the Floater, but misses.
Bull reloads.
Geronimo reloads.
Congo takes down the Floater.
Boom Boom reloads.
And Trips is our sole overwatch this turn.
The Sectoid prepares to take a shot, but Trips is ready with Covering Fire...

...and misses completely.
Fortunately, the Sectoid also missed Bull.
Bull misses the Sectoid...
...but Congo gets up close and personal and takes it down.
Frost moves up and steadies aim.  Supported by Trips, I want her on high ground for the next compartment.
Boom Boom leads the squad in another round of overwatches.
Congo shuts down power conduit #4 and reloads.
Frost and Trips advance down one corridor, the rest of the squad goes down the other.  The rest of the squad overwatches.
Frost gets up to the disabled power conduit and steadies aim.
Next turn, Frost sprints for the high ground, even though she won't get there for another turn.
Meanwhile, Trips covers her from the ground.  The rest of the squad overwatches.
On the other side of the map, a couple Thin Men drop down on the high ground.
Another Thin Man drops down on top of the pylon on Trips' side...
...and a Muton drops down on top of the pylon on the other side.  The main team is trapped.
Frost finally makes it to high ground, and Dr. Shen discovers that a piece of alien technology nearby appears to be a miniature fusion reactor.  I suspect that this discovery alone makes up for the cost in effort, resources, and lives this undertaking has exacted.
The rest of the squad overwatches.
Boom Boom gets an overwatch hit on a Thin Man as it runs for a better firing position off of the Pylon.
It shoots at Geronimo, and misses.
Bull ensures that it briefly learns the error of its ways.
Frost steadies aim due to lack of targets.
The rest of the squad overwatches.
Meanwhile, Trips has successfully shut down power conduit #5.  With only one left to go, we may well end up prevailing.
A Thin Man takes a peek over its perch.
Frost gets eyes on it, but fails to hit.
Bull, on the other hand, blasts it into oblivion.
Congo kills another Thin Man on the high ground.
Fortunately, there's only the Muton left.  Unfortunately, it's dropped down from its position on top of the pylon to flank Bull.
It takes its flanking shot, and it hits!  BULL!
At least he's only critically wounded, not dead.
Geronimo Rapid Fires the Muton straight to hell.  Unfortunately, it wasn't the last alien on the map, and we don't have a medkit to stabilize Bull with.

Trips moves up and disables the last power conduit.
Frost, lacking in targets, steadies aim once more.
The rest of the squad prepares to backtrack, in case I missed anything.  Boom Boom overwatches.
It turns out that there was one last Thin Man on the high ground.  Fortunately, Trips was able to kill it on overwatch.
Op success!
Two fatalities, and plenty of wounds for just about everyone else.  Still, we got some promotions out of the deal.
Trips made Tech Sergeant, and gained Lock and Load.
Geronimo made Tech Sergeant, and gained Killer Instinct, which gives him a +50% bonus to damage on critical hits when he uses Run and Gun.
Frost made Corporal, and gained Snap Shot and the nickname "Lady Grey."  A badass nickname for a sniper.
We got a great haul off of this one.  Those Fusion Cores will be great for making Fusion Lances for our aircraft, or Blaster Launchers for our rocketeers.
The Council is also pleased to see that Operation Slingshot paid off.
Two suits of Alloy Plating were damaged during the mission.
Even after a good mission like that, we need to go update the Memorial.  15 XCOM soldiers have given their last full measure in defense of this planet.  We should be thankful today that there are so many who would.
Anyways, we can afford the Company Officers upgrade, which will allow us to field Captains.
Vixen and Scooby, you've been promoted to the rank of Captain, with all of the privileges and responsibilities that the position entails.  Good work, people.  You've made your planet proud.
Anyways, Russia wants some of our alien computers.  Not sure what Putin wants them for, but we'll take the research and engineering help.
Anyways, we're going to need a couple more interceptors in Asia, if we're going to protect our satellite coverage over China.
Also, we should get work started on that second Thermo Generator.
Back to the Hologlobe!
Germany wants flight computers, too?  Bitte, baby!
Anyway, a small UFO appears over China, and we sent out Nosedive to just kill it.
Unfortunately, it was Nosedive who got killed!  NOOOO!  NOSEDIVE!

Well, that's the first interceptor we've lost so far.  I may have to add Lt. "Nosedive" Freytag to the roll of the Honored Dead
Australia wants Meld.  You're welcome to it, mate!
And, our interceptors in Asia have finally arrived!  First up is Flight Officer "Tarheel" Nash.
Second is Flight Officer "Carrot" Fernandes.  Let's hope you fare better than your predecessor did.
Speaking of which, we have a medium UFO over Chinese airspace.  We sent Carrot up to intercept, but it landed before we could get it.
Looks like we have yet another mission in China, this time to a landed UFO.  Let's get our team assembled.
Scooby is leading this team, with the usual loadout for a medic.
Infantry and Patreon contributors Banzai and Rascal are coming along, too.
Barbosa and Luthuli are our assaults on this mission.
Chilong is our engineer, and hopefully he'll get some captures this mission.
Savolainen is literally our only other rocketeer.
Finally, we're bringing a rookie on this mission, special contributor J.R. Klein, with the standard rookie loadout.  What I would give for a base facility that lets you train rookies up to Specialist without having to send them on missions.
Anyway, Strike One has reached the landing site.
